In one of the few games to take place at the weekend, the Sky Blues saw off opposition from Barnsley in the Championship and Coleman is now hoping to have them geared up to face the Premiership side who haven’t been in action since the 1-1 draw between the teams at Fratton Park on 2 January.
“They haven’t played for ten days so they’ll field a strong team as they did at Fratton Park,” said Coleman.
“We matched them down there, and we’ve got to again on Tuesday night but I think we can take it a stage further with a bit of luck.
“We want to keep winning and give ourselves a little bit of momentum.
“The league is our bread and butter, we know that and we’re climbing now but tomorrow is The Cup and it’s a little bit of icing on the cake for us.”
The former Fulham boss knows it won’t be easy though, with Pompey sure to be determined to get a confidence building Cup victory to take back into their Premier League campaign.
“They’re going to want to win the game and they’ve got good quality on the pitch,” added Coleman.
“We’ve got to make sure we start the game well and put in a performance. If we don’t, we probably won’t be in The FA Cup.” (fa/mg/rex)
